GETTING STARTED WITH THE MAP

System Requirements:

To use the Cambodia Atlas all you need is a JavaScript enabled web browser and an internet connection.

Supported Browsers:
Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox (all), Opera 8+.

Exploring the map:

To pan the map simply hold down your left mouse button and drag the map into the desired position. Alternatively you can also use the keyboard arrow keys or the arrows contained within the 'Control Panel' located at the top right of the map window.

To pan to a specific position double click the point on the main map you wish to pan to and the map will re-center to that position. Alternatively if the the position you wish to pan to is outside of the current map view you can double click on a position on the 'Key Map' located in the bottom left corner of your screen. The map will then re-center to that position. You can also click and drag the red box or target symbol within the key map in order to re-position the main map.

To zoom the map simply click the + or - symbols in the slider contained within the 'Control Panel' or click and drag the node situated in between the + and - icons. Alternatively if using a mouse with a wheel, you can push the wheel forward to zoom in one level or pull the wheel back towards you to zoom out.

Using the Legend:
To view the legend click on the legend button within the top bar of the map window. You will be presented with a legend which represents the groups currently visible on the map.



To turn on or turn off a group of layers simply click on the groups name within the legend window. The will make the group visible/invisible on the map and the legend.

The order of the groups listed in the legend corresponds to the order in which the groups are stacked on the map. To move a group up or down in the stack click the group up/down tabs within the group you wish to move.

To change the transparency value of a group click the + or - buttons within the transparency slider or drag the node situated between the +/- buttons into your required position.

To view a layers meta data click on the layer name and a window will be opened which contains the meta data for that layer.

Using the Search Function:
To view the search window click on the search button within the top bar of the map window. You will then be presented with the search window which contains one or more drop down menu's.



To search the map choose an option from the drop down menu then hit the go button to zoom to that location or if there is another drop down menu below you can refine your search by choosing an option from the now populated menu below and press go to zoom to that location. Each search drop down menu option is geographically within the option selected in the drop down menu above. A common format for the search is Province->District-Commune.

Using the Print Function:
To view the print window click on the print button within the top bar of the map window. You will then be presented with the print window which contains print options.



To Print the map first you must select your desired options. As standard the map is set up to display the legend and grid on an A4 piece of paper set to 'landscape view'. If you wish you change the size of the print you will need to adjust the 'Map Width' and 'Map Height' options accordingly. Once the option are to your choosing press the 'View Print Preview Button', you will now see a pop up window containing a representation of how the view will look on the printed page. If you are happy with the view in your browser window press File->Print. If you are not happy with the layout, close the pop-up window and re-adjust the options.
